When to recall a product

A product recall may be required if a product might cause injury to any person, or contravene an unsafe goods notice or prescribed product safety standard.

Window coverings with cords – including blinds, roman blinds, roller shades and curtains with a pull-cord – pose a serious hazard to young children.

Button batteries – product safety

Button batteries pose serious and potentially fatal risks if swallowed. Insertion into the ears or nose can also have serious consequences.

High-powered magnets – product safety

Small high-powered magnets can pose serious health risks if swallowed. Some of these magnets are now banned from sale in New Zealand.
