Sold to some schools from April 2015 to March 2018 Gauze Mat product code #N1043353 Gauze Mats with a ceramic centre. Any gauze mat that cannot be specifically identified as not one of the affected units should be disposed of.
The Hazard!
The Ceramic Centre of the gauze mat may contain asbestos, if so, it can release when cracked or worn.
Exposure to asbestos can result in asbestos related diseases.
What to do...
Schools with affected gauze mats should bag up any potentially affected mats carefully and safely (wearing a P2 mask and disposable gloves).
Pure Science will contact all schools and will safety dispose of mats and provide a credit for all affected mats purchased.
Where schools are not comfortable handling the identified product or if it is fraying/cracking, schools may wish to organise an asbestos removal contractor.
