The Hazard!
Fitbit launched an investigation into its Sense and Versa 3 devices after it became aware of a recent increase in consumer-reported thermal events.
The investigation by Fitbit determined that in some of its Sense and Versa 3 smartwatches manufactured within a certain time period (the Impacted Products) were more likely to experience overheating, posing a potential risk to consumers.
What to do...
A firmware update will be rolled out to all users of the impacted products, which will mitigate the risk of future overheating events.
Consumers are to install the firmware update to their device by syncing with the Fitbit app.
If the users do not take action upon receipt of the notice, impacted products will be automatically forced into factory reset mode. Impacted Products will stay in factory reset mode until the user pairs their device to the Fitbit mobile app and accepts the firmware update.
Fitbit plans to begin notifying users via email, mobile app notification and a clock face that will be forced to the device of the user, of the impacted products of the availability of the firmware update on 21 January 2025.
