Apple MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid-2015 model) Affected units were sold primarily from September 2015 to February 2017 and affected batteries are identified by the MacBooks serial number. Identifying if your laptop has one of the affected batteries Check to see which 15-inch MacBook Pro you have, to do this: Choose 'About This Mac' from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen. Confirm the model is “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)”. If this shows any other model you do not need to do anything further. If you confirm you have the potentially affected model, visit: support.apple.com/en-nz/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall and enter your computer’s serial number to see if it is affected and eligible for this program. This program does not affect other MacBook Pro models.
The Hazard!
Apple has determined that in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk.
What to do...
If you have an older generation Apple MacBook Pro: follow the instructions and use the serial number lookup tool, to determine if it is affected and eligible for the battery replacement program.
If your MacBook Pro is affected (see process for checking your battery below), stop using it and follow the instructions to have the battery replaced.
